PAC specifications, SDS and Certificate of Analysis

The paperwork side of buying PAC — what a Certificate of Analysis should contain, what the Safety Data Sheet covers, and the shipping classification your freight forwarder will ask for.

What our Certificate of Analysis states

FieldPurpose
Batch / lot numberTraceability back to a specific production run
Manufacturing and expiry dateConfirms shelf life remaining at delivery
Al2O3 content (%)The active coagulant content — your primary quality parameter
Basicity (%)Governs floc behaviour, alkalinity consumption and pH depression
Water insolubles (%)Predicts residue and dosing-line fouling
pH of 1% solutionHandling and material compatibility indicator
Heavy metals (Fe, As, Pb, Cd, Hg)Required for potable water applications and most tenders
Test method referenceShows results are against a recognised standard, not an in-house shortcut

A CoA that does not carry a batch number is not a CoA — it is a marketing sheet. Ask for the batch-specific document before you accept a delivery.

SDS

Safety Data Sheet — the sections that matter on site

Hazard identification

PAC is classified as causing serious eye damage and skin irritation. Site PPE requirements follow from this section.

First aid measures

Post the eye-flush and skin-contact procedures at the dosing station, not just in the HSE file.

Handling and storage

Compatible materials, temperature range, segregation from alkalis and oxidisers.

Accidental release

Containment and neutralisation procedure for a spill or IBC failure — worth rehearsing before you need it.

Stability and reactivity

Reacts with alkalis and generates heat. Never store beside caustic soda or lime.

Transport information

Classification, packing group and any marine pollutant flag your forwarder needs.

Shipping and classification reference

Common CAS reference1327-41-9 (verify against the SDS for your specific grade)
Typical HS code2827.32 — aluminium chloride derivatives (confirm with your customs broker)
Transport classificationGenerally UN 3264, Class 8 corrosive liquid, PG III for liquid grades
Solid gradesClassification varies by formulation — always confirm against the batch SDS
Packaging markingUN-certified packaging required where the grade is classified as dangerous goods

Classification and HS codes vary by grade, formulation and destination country. Treat this as a starting point and confirm with your freight forwarder and customs broker for your specific shipment and route.

FAQ

Common questions

Yes. Ask and we will send the current Safety Data Sheet so your HSE and compliance team can review it before you commit to anything.

Yes. Every consignment ships with a CoA tied to the actual production batch, not a generic specification sheet.

Commonly 2827.32, though classification depends on the exact formulation and destination country. Confirm with your customs broker before filing, since a wrong code causes clearance delays.

Liquid PAC is generally classified as a Class 8 corrosive. Solid grades vary by formulation. The batch SDS carries the authoritative classification for your shipment.
