Al2O3 content
The single biggest factor. Always convert competing quotes to cost per kg of active Al2O3 before comparing.
Pricing
Nobody can quote a real PAC price without knowing your grade, volume, packaging and destination. What we can do is explain exactly what drives the number — so the quote you receive is one you can actually evaluate.
PAC pricing moves with aluminium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid feedstock costs, energy costs at the spray-drying stage, and ocean freight rates out of the producing region. A price list published in January is misleading by March.
On top of that, two quotes for 'PAC' can be for genuinely different products. A 28% Al2O3 spray-dried powder and a 10% liquid are both PAC, and the price per tonne differs by roughly three times — because the active content does. Comparing them at face value is meaningless.
What we do instead is quote firm, in writing, within 24 hours, with grade, basicity, packaging, quantity, Incoterm and validity period all stated. If you want a number you can put into a budget, that is the only honest way to get one.
Cost drivers
The single biggest factor. Always convert competing quotes to cost per kg of active Al2O3 before comparing.
Liquid looks cheaper per tonne and usually is not, because roughly 88% of it is water you are also paying freight on.
Full container loads price materially better than part loads. Below one tonne, handling cost dominates.
Jumbo bags cost less per tonne than 25 kg bags. IBCs cost more than drums per tonne but are cheaper to handle.
FOB Jebel Ali, CIF your port and DDP your site are three very different numbers. Confirm which you are being quoted.
Ocean freight, congestion surcharges and inland trucking vary by route and by month, sometimes sharply.
| Step | What to check |
|---|---|
| 1. Normalise the active content | Divide the price per tonne by the Al2O3 percentage to get cost per point of alumina. |
| 2. Match the basicity | A 40% and an 85% basicity product behave differently in your water. Same price does not mean same performance. |
| 3. Confirm the Incoterm | An FOB price against a CIF price will always look better. It is not. |
| 4. Add landed cost | Customs duty, VAT, clearing, port handling, trucking and any demurrage risk. On part-container loads this is where margins vanish. |
| 5. Run a jar test | Cost per cubic metre treated is the number that matters. A 10% cheaper product needing 25% more dose is more expensive. |
| 6. Check documentation | A batch CoA and a current SDS. If those cost you a delayed tender submission, the discount was not a discount. |
“Send us your water analysis and your monthly volume, and you get a firm price with lead time in one reply — not a discovery call.”
FAQ
It depends on grade, volume, packaging and Incoterm, and it moves with feedstock and freight costs. Send us your grade and monthly volume and we will quote a firm price valid for a stated period, usually within 24 hours.
Per tonne, yes. Per kilogram of active Al2O3, usually not — liquid PAC is roughly 10–12% Al2O3 against 28–30% for powder. Compare on active content, then add on-site handling cost.
Yes. Committed annual volume with a scheduled call-off lets us plan shipments and price accordingly. We do not require a contract to give you a competitive first price.
First orders are typically on advance payment or against a Proforma Invoice. Credit terms are available for established repeat customers after trade references.
